Many riders feel less sure in left-hand hairpins than in right-handers. The reason is often oncoming traffic: the line runs close to the centre line, and the eyes get stuck on approaching vehicles instead of the exit.
Calm in the left-hand hairpin
- Stay wide: Stay on your side longer so you have more distance from the centre.
- Eyes to the exit: Turn your head towards the exit, not towards oncoming traffic.
- Don't cut it: Your head must never cross the centre line – not even when leaned over.
The riding technique is best deepened on a recognised rider safety course. If left-hand hairpins block you mentally, you'll find the right mental training here.
