Hairpins often feel harder downhill than uphill. The bike pushes, the weight sits on the front wheel, and your eyes tend to stick to the steep tarmac. That's exactly where it pays to guide your gaze deliberately.

Vision and calm in downhill hairpins

  • Slow down early: Reduce your speed before the hairpin so you don't need to brake in the corner.
  • Turn your head: Look over your shoulder to the exit – even if the drop draws your eye.
  • Relieve your arms: Grip the tank with your knees so your arms are free to steer.

The riding technique is best deepened on a recognised rider safety course. If steep hairpins block you mentally, you'll find the right mental training here.
