At 100 km/h your braking distance is roughly twice as long as at 70 km/h. That figure is quickly read – and just as quickly forgotten. In an emergency, what counts is not what you know, but what you have practised.

Braking starts in your head

  • Practise regularly: Emergency braking is best trained on a recognised rider safety course, not in a real emergency.
  • Choose your speed deliberately: Before blind sections, ask yourself: could I stop in time here?
  • Know your reaction: Notice how you react to a scare – do you grab, do you freeze? Knowing this keeps you calmer.

At Ride & Reflect we work on the mental side: breaking out of freezing and building trust in your own reaction. More in my coaching offers.
