Long Alpine tunnels can be exhausting: monotonous light, noise, confinement, fumes. Many riders stare at the tail lights ahead and slip into a kind of trance. An alert, active gaze is better.
Alert through the tunnel
- Scan the space: Don't fixate on the tail lights, let your eyes move.
- Keep your distance: More distance gives calm and reaction time.
- Breathe consciously: Calm breathing helps against the feeling of confinement.
Perception can be trained. You'll find suitable coaching offers on it here.
