A tense neck is more than uncomfortable. The tension travels into your shoulders and arms – and turns into hard, jerky steering inputs. A relaxed upper body, on the other hand, lets the bike work calmly.
A relaxed neck in three steps
- Traffic light check: At every red light, consciously drop your shoulders and slowly turn your head left and right.
- Check your grip: Hold the bars loosely enough that you could drum your fingers.
- Use your breaks: At every stop, roll your shoulders and head a few times.
If you have persistent pain, get it checked by a doctor. If the tension mainly comes from your head, I'm happy to help in a Focus Session.
