With a pillion or full luggage, your bike changes noticeably. The rear sinks, the front wheel gets lighter and the bike turns in differently. If you don't take this into account, you'll be surprised by an unusually vague feel.

Adjusting your suspension to the load

  • Increase the preload: That way the bike doesn't sag under the extra weight. The settings are in your owner's manual.
  • Adjust your tyre pressure: Many manufacturers recommend higher pressure when loaded.
  • Take a test ride: Ride a few calm kilometres to get used to the new behaviour.

A well set-up bike gives you peace of mind. For preparing bigger tours, there's the Adventure Blueprint.
