In tight hairpins, your eyes decide your line. If you look at the front wheel, you ride angular and unsure. If you look over your shoulder to the exit early, you give your body a clear target – and the bike follows.

Vision in a hairpin

  • Look early: Consciously turn your head towards the exit as you start turning in.
  • Turn your chin too: A clear turn of head and chin helps more than just moving your eyes.
  • Build trust: At first it feels unusual. Practise on familiar roads before tackling the steep passes.

The riding technique is best deepened on a recognised rider safety course. If hairpins block you mentally, you'll find the right mental training here.
