Route Film

Turn your tour or GPX track into an animated map video – right in your browser.

Turn a GPX file into an animated route map video for motorcycle, bike, hiking or road trips. MP4 up to 4K. Free, no account, in your browser.

Most comfortable on a computer with Chrome, Edge or Safari. On tablets and phones you use the editor by touch; for 4K a computer is recommended.

Everything stays on your device: projects, photos and music live in your browser and videos are made in your browser. Only what you explicitly share via a link is uploaded.

How it works

1. Create the route

Draw your route point by point on the map or load a GPX file from your sat nav, sports watch or a touring app. Several tracks can be joined into one route. Or start from a template: famous pass roads as a ready-made route.

2. Look, signs and legs

Pick a map theme – from a plain map to satellite with sharp aerial imagery –, switch on 3D terrain and place signs for passes, towns and stops. For each leg you set the mode of transport, speed and breaks.

3. Photos, clips and music

Add your own photos and video clips: they land at the right spot on the route via GPS location or a click, as a full-screen hold or as a polaroid on the map. Add title cards, clock, elevation profile and music. Everything stays on your device.

4. Camera, export and sharing

Let the camera follow the line or move from one view to the next. Download the finished video as an MP4 in 1080p, 2K or 4K – landscape for YouTube, portrait or square for Instagram and Reels. Share the project with a link (without photos and music).

For every tour

Motorcycle

Mountain passes, a weekend tour or the whole Alpine trip: show your motorcycle tour as a route film, with signs for passes and stops.

Bike and gravel

Road bike, gravel or bikepacking: the GPX file of your ride becomes an animated map, with an elevation profile if you like.

Hiking and trail running

From a summit day to a multi-day hike: let the route grow across 3D terrain or satellite imagery.

Road trip and travel

Car, train, ferry or on foot: set the mode of transport per leg and turn the whole trip into one video.

Using a GPX file from Strava, Komoot, Garmin and more

The Route Film reads GPX files, the standard format of almost every sat nav, sports watch and touring app. Menu names change from time to time; what you are looking for is always “GPX”.

Strava

Open the activity in your browser, choose the “…” menu and “Export GPX” (for your own activities).

Komoot

Open the tour on komoot.com and download it as a GPX file.

Garmin Connect

Open the activity, choose the gear icon and “Export to GPX”.

Sat nav and sports watch

The recording is usually a .gpx or .fit file on the device. Load GPX directly; for a FIT file, first export it as GPX in the manufacturer’s app.
