Making a U-turn on a narrow road is one of those moments when many beginners hold their breath. The bike is slow, heavy and seems close to falling over. A simple trick helps: a light touch of the rear brake gives the bike stability – like an invisible rope.
How to stay calm in a U-turn
- Eyes on the goal: Look to where you want to ride after the turn, not at the ground in front of you.
- Drag the rear brake lightly: It stabilises the bike at low speed.
- Breathe out: A conscious breath before turning in releases tension in your arms and shoulders.
Practise this on an empty car park first. If the fear of dropping the bike holds you back, we can work on exactly that in a Focus Session.
