On gravel, riding standing up is often calmer than sitting down. Your centre of gravity moves down to the pegs, the bike can move beneath you, and you have a better view ahead. For many riders it feels unusual at first.
First steps standing up
- Practise on a straight: First stand up on a flat, quiet stretch and ride a few metres.
- Knees slightly bent: Hold on to the bike with your legs, not with your arms on the bars.
- Look far ahead: The further you look, the calmer the bike stays.
